Just following on from my last blog entry about my recent visit to RHS Wisley, Surrey. I shall write more in depth about some recent stuff I've learnt in my Garden Design studies a little on. Here are some more beautiful images taken on the Last Day of Summer.

I've been giving some thought lately about aesthetics and key design principles within the realm of Japanese gardens and was asking myself the question, "What makes Japanese gardens look so Japanese?  Recently I was looking at some photos I took during the Easter holiday break. During that long weekend the weather was particularly amazing and, as we British do, made the most of the opportunity and left the house. A friend of mine visited a Japanese garden here in London a few weeks prior to the Easter weekend and took some rather nice photos. It took me by surprise so I asked her where this place was: Kyoto Garden, Holland Park, London. Considering I've been living in London since the beginning of 2012 I did feel kind of silly for not actually knowing about this beautiful place and the fact that I have wondered through Holland Park without actually crossing Kyoto Garden's path. Volim Te, Zagreb (Part 2) – ‘Moderna Galarija’

Given that the tone of my last blog entry about Zagreb felt a little wistful, despite having a really nice time there, I thought it would be a bit of a shame if I didn’t publish a follow-up piece that feels more celebratory and cheerful at least. Or, more importantly, that I should publish a follow-up about one of the highlights of my visit to Zagreb earlier this year. For me my favourite moment was a visit to ‘Moderna Galerija’ (Zagreb’s National Museum of Modern Art).  Even though I took quite a few photographs of the amazing artwork upon the gallery’s wall, I did neglect to take photo the MG’s exterior. Moderna Galerija is housed in the Revival style of Vranyczany Palace, built in the 1880s in the heart of Zagreb to a plan by Viennese architect Otto Hofner. How New Should it Be?

When I was in-between jobs last year (i.e. waiting for my next office job to come through) I took the pleasure of working as a ‘Residential Gardener’ for most of the summer. Granted general clean-up duties could sometimes be a drag, but there were many occasions where we would plant a shipment of new plants and shrubs. Straight from the nursery, off the truck, into the garden. This was always a lot of fun. Once everything was planted it was then a case of standing back and simply appreciating the work we had just done. One thing I used to sometimes notice was the mild apprehension on a client’s face once everything was planted. You could read their faces sometimes; “This doesn’t really look like what I saw in last month’s ‘Gardens Illustrated’ magazine.” Followed by a very hesitant, “So . . . these plants will definitely grow and move into shape, yeah?” Yes, they most certainly will.
